Who the Heck is Peter Shor?
Today our blog will be about a person who created a powerful algorithm over 30 years ago. The algorithm is so powerful it could potentially break the internet cryptography. The person I am referring is Peter Shor. Peter Shor algorithm is called the the Shor Algorithm. It was created in 1994. At first, his algorithm was not accepted by his peers.
Peter Shor was able to take advantage of quantum probability functions different than classical probability. Classical probability is unable to take advantage of nature unlike quantum. A quantum computer can give huge speedups for certain problems that have nothing to do with quantum mechanics. One of the use cases is breaking the internet public cryptography key that protect the internet. An example is finding the the prime factors of huge composite numbers solving other problems that are group and number theory that underline modern cryptography.
Peter Shor algorithm was surprised to the computer industry. Peter Shor was on a Premiere Conference for theoretical computer science when another person presented a paper that got rejected. Peter felt the paper should of been accepted . He decided to worked on the algorithm for a year and then released what we know as the Shor Algorithm. Thanks for your time. Power Up!
